Beagle Puppy Training 101

Are you in need of some effective beagle puppy training techniques? When training a new puppy, it can be challenging. First, a dog owner must understand how a puppy’s brain functions. One of the essential things you can do for a puppy is rewarding them for behaving well. Unfortunately, this step is usually neglected during puppy training. That is because many dogs can’t comprehend how vital it is. On the other hand, puppy rewards such as dog treats are necessary during puppy training due to how a puppy’s mind functions and how pets view the world.

Beagle Puppy Training Tips

A puppy views the world as a sequence of events. Dogs typically do not care if these events don’t go their way. Nevertheless, what they are concerned about are the ones that do go their way and, of course, the ones that make them the most content and happy. Remember, dogs live for the moment. That means dogs can’t see what they may have done a couple of hours ago as negative.

That is the reason why punishing a dog for an event that they committed while you were away from the house will not make any difference. In other words, he will not be able to comprehend that you are reprimanding him for an event because he will not know what to relate it to. So, you must show your dog, at the moment, the right thing to do.

Because puppies live from moment to moment and because of how pets remember the events that are considered positive, a puppy will respond to the positive rewards that a dog owner gives their dog. That is one reason why it is straightforward to train a puppy to do a new trick. So, if you give your dog a treat for something that he did when given a command, the dog will remember to do whatever command you give them because they will remember the treat that came along with it.

On the other hand, reprimanding your dog for doing something wrong will not make them cease from that particular behavior. That is because they will not associate a bad outcome with an event unless a dog owner can manage to catch them red-handed and speak to them firmly. So, if you do not catch the dog red-handed, punishing your dog will only cause them to be fearful of you and create anxiety.

Puppy training potty

It can be a real hassle to potty training dogs – especially Beagle puppies. It requires an excessive amount of time and patience, and your puppy may not respond to your commands or what you want it to do right away. It can take anywhere from a month to two months (or more) for your dog to be fully potty trained.

It would help if you kept in mind that you can’t begin potty training your dog too early in its life. Just like with a human, you have to wait a while for your puppy to grow before you can begin potty training them properly. Since dog’s age much faster than humans, a few months of age for a dog is the equivalent of a human toddler, and that’s when you should begin potty training them. If you try to potty train them too early, you’ll find that it won’t work at all because younger puppies do not have the muscular control required for the task. In addition, their cognitive abilities (such as responding to commands) are just beginning to develop.

When you feel that your puppy or dog is ready to be potty trained, you need to make sure that you’re feeding it on a regular schedule. Dogs, in general, learn from repetition (think Pavlov) and routine. Therefore, to ensure potty training success with your dog, it’s paramount that you fill its food and water bowl up at the same time every day. That will, in turn, make the dog need to go to the bathroom at around the same time every day and will give you more leeway in the dog’s potty habits. When you feel that you have the proper routine, you can now begin potty training your dog.

Puppy training schedule

When you wake up in the morning, take the dog outside and wait until it releases its wastes. Do this in the afternoon, evening, and night before you go to bed. Eventually, the puppy or dog will get used to this routine, and your dog will finally be house trained. Unfortunately, there is no magic cure to potty training your dog – it takes weeks of constant repetition for your dog to learn that ‘this is when you get to use the bathroom’ and ‘this is when you don’t.’ Get into the habit of giving your dog a treat when it refrains from using the bathroom in your home, and not giving it one when it does. Over time, your dog will learn that using your bathroom at home is bad behavior and will eventually stop doing it.

Puppy training biting

Biting is a natural part of a puppies’ growth. In the wild, they have to strengthen their teeth and jaw muscles at an early age to hunt and feed on prey as they get older. Thus Biting is a natural part of a dog’s instinct.

Unfortunately, there are many things in your house that you don’t want your dog Biting up. Anything the Alpha dog leaves for the puppies is fair game in the wild. Since you’re the Alpha dog to your puppy, he thinks the things you leave around the house belong to him. In his eyes, it’s OK to chew them up; that’s why you “gave them” to him!

To aggravate a biting problem, older dogs under stress often revert to comfortable “puppy” behaviors. Since biting makes them feel good — like a cat kneading his paws — they’ll often do it to take their mind off of other stress in their life. If you can reduce the stress, you’ll likely reduce or eliminate bad behavior.

The number one thing you can do to stop dog biting when you leave the house is to crate train your dog. Although it seems harsh at first, your dog will think of his crate as his den and will welcome the opportunity to use it.

You aren’t going to stop your dog’s biting – It’s part of what makes a dog a dog! What you can do, however, is give your dog substitute items that it’s OK for him to chew. Rawhide, clean beef bones, and other chew toys (Kong-type toys) can help. One of the tricks is to give his toys their scent; put a drop of vanilla on each so he can smell the difference right away. When you catch your beagle chewing something he shouldn’t, don’t scold him (this is stressful to him) — take it away and give him one of his good toys.

Puppy training crate

Crate training is a better option for the Beagle puppy, rather than leaving the puppy outdoors to his devices when you are not in the home. A crate is a home for the puppy or dog when used correctly. Train your puppy to sleep in the crate, and it can also be used as part of your potty training. The puppy is unlikely to mess up the crate as it is their home. However, please do not put your puppy in the crate the whole day but only when it sleeps at night or when it is raining with thunder or lightning. Instead, use a treat to lure it inside the crate, and at the same time, you can teach him the ‘COME’ command.

Beagle Puppy Training

Beagle puppy training needs a lot of care and patience, and love when it comes to learning what’s right and what’s wrong. If you yell at and abuse your Puppy when it does something you don’t like, it will learn that what it did is bad behavior, but for the wrong reasons.
